Nate Review: Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith

So I see this upcoming title Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith and my mind was instantly firing in several different directions. Given the breadth of my SW universe interest, I had hopes of some entry of Bane or Revan into Canon, or maybe this was the first, serious interaction we were seeing between our friends in the High Republic and the SIth. I was not expecting a Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian team up to battle forces of the Dark Side while trying to protect Rey’s parents!

I consume most of my books via audio format. This makes Star Wars books incredibly enjoyable. Shadow of the Sith was well performed by narrator William DeMeritt. The author, Adam Christopher, did a fantastic job in delivering a story that bounced back and forth between the principal players and for me, listening to the story, gave it a very Star Wars movie feel. This book could be made into a movie with the original actors playing the parts given the story timeframe and the magic of current film production.

What I loved about this story was the presence of Luke and Lando. They were both Luke and Lando as you would expect them to be at this time. Luke is the Jedi Master. He has explored the galaxy and searched for all he can find and learned about the Jedi and master his skills. He is in command of the force and is a force to be reckoned with, but does not portray that in any manner. He is Jedi. Lando is a retired general and gambler with a big heroic heart. He knows how to get things done and is cool in most situations. He has resolve and wisdom from experience. He finally gets some (new canon) spotlight that he deserves.

The story itself fills in details that fans of the sequel trilogy will most definitely want to know. There is an introduction of Sith lore that I find fascinating. The character of Lor San Tekka is present in the book, giving us a better understanding of who he is and a deeper understanding of the tragedy of the opening scenes of Episode 7. There is also another character in the book that fans of the sequel will recognize that I won’t mention, you’ll just have to read the book and figure that one out.

Great Book. I highly recommend it. As I mentioned before there is back story information provided (which is always important to me!). The team of Luke and Lando is fantastic. This is a good read for a point in time Star Wars story where two of our heroes go on a mission to face down the Dark Side and save the day.

I have included a link to the book on Amazon. I am in no way associated with Disney, Star Wars, the Author, or Amazon.
