The Activist Court Rush Warned of… but not swinging from the left.

Facebook Post – June 25, 2022

During the time when I considered myself to be a conservative republican, I had on my list of fears an activist Supreme Court. I remember the innumerable times that Rush Limbaugh would talk me through the dangers of a Supreme Court packed with Liberal judges, all on activist missions to push the boundaries of abortion, sexual perversion, and limitless marriages to any person, place, or thing. He and his buddies like Sean Hannity would wax poetic about how Conservatives only interpret the Constitution and make judgments on cases based on that interpretation. In addition, the Constitution was a document never to be messed with… Written by MEN who knew best.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court released its worst-kept secret, the overturn of Roe vs. Wade. We also saw with its release the emergence of an activist court that Rush had been warning of… The problem… The activism is being led by his good friend Clarence Thomas. This once quiet, non-speaking member of the Supremes has found his voice now that the Lions of the Court RBG and Scalia are gone. I suspect that these two intellectual giant counterpoints and good friends were balancing factors and Justice Kennedy helped with that as well. It was said in a commentary yesterday that Chief Justice Roberts is irrelevant now and that Thomas is leading the Court.

I wonder what Rush would say about his good buddy signaling to the world that it’s time to go after an individual’s choice in contraception, association, and marriage. Folks, a Supreme Court justice winked and nodded for cases to be brought forth… This means he wants them so he can maneuver them to a different outcome.  As some have pointed out, he may want to be careful… The laws that protect his mixed-race marriage could come into play as part of his activism. It was one of the very cases he referenced, and I can’t imagine someone won’t go that angle after what happened yesterday.

This activism triggered multiple abortion bans across states and sent women’s health decisions to State Legislatures. This victory for the Pro-Life movement, which sells their fight as a “save the lives of babies” fails to inform you that the bulk of the incorrectly named “abortion” issue is really women’s health issues (or reproductive health issues). The statistics quoted by the pro-life movement do include instances where women simply want to terminate a pregnancy for whatever reason. I’m not okay with terminating a pregnancy as a means of birth control. The statistics also include procedures where babies died in the womb and the body needs to be removed, the baby was so malformed or diseased that death was inevitable and termination was merciful, instances in which miscarriages occurred and DNC’s was necessary to remove remains because the body did not expel. All four of these examples are “abortions” but of course, the Pro-Life crowd only shouts about the first example.

Also involved in these issues are many other elements related to reproductive health that I do not understand because (1) I am a man (2) I am not a doctor (3) I do not have legislative staff who should be informing me of the actual facts of issues so that I can fairly, honestly, and adequately represent my district or state.  The additional issues get folded into abortion rights and therefore get sidelined along with abortions.

Let’s take the issue of contraceptives, specifically birth control pills. I understand from women close to me that they have had to use birth control pills as a way to control considerable and painful issues with menstrual cycles. It is not simply a question of not getting “knocked up”, but rather simply functioning on a daily basis when their bodies are doing the natural functions that Men in Congress and the Supreme Court expect them to do.  The Roe v. Wade decision triggers laws that endanger contraception.

I found this device online called the Menstruation Machine, designed by a Japanese artist. It’s supposed to help men understand the discomfort of a women’s monthly cycle. Perhaps the artist could make it industrial strength and ship several units to the Supreme Court?

How did I jump from the safety of our children in their schools from active shooters to this issue? Oh, I didn’t… Pursuing every opportunity to protect our children from being massacred at school is still a top priority. Unfortunately, Good Ole CT and the Gang decided to let everybody strap on six-shooters this week. Then! To round out the week they relegated my wife, my sisters-in-law, my nieces, my mother, my sister, my other female family members, female friends, and co-workers into second-class citizen status and tossed the outcome of critical components of their medical care to state legislatures.  So, at a time when I’m ranting and raving about doing what we can to protect children, CT and the Supremes are doing everything they can to make sure that every crazy can carry around a gun and that women have crappy healthcare.
